CAR
The ground is on the outskirts of Scunthorpe, making and is very easy to reach from the motorway. Leave the M180 at Junction 3 and take the M181 for Scunthorpe. At the end of this motorway, you will see the ground on your right.
PARKING
There is a large carpark at the ground and this costs around £3. I have used this in the past and found it to be a good option, and not too bad for getting away at the end of the game.
TRAIN
The station is 2miles from the ground meaning that a taxi is the best option.
The fitter Poolies that fancy the walk should turn left out of the station and head towards the crossroads (facing a church) and turn right into Oswald Road, going past a set of traffic lights and the Honest Lawyer and Blue Bell pubs. At the next traffic lights turn left into Doncaster Road, then just go straight down this road and you will eventually reach Glanford Park on your left. Otherwise catch the number 909 bus from Doncaster Road down to the ground.
PUBS/FOOD
The ground is right on the edge of town and is well placed for the usual sterile amenities that can be found on a retail park. There is fast food outlets and a Tesco that will keep the hunger pains at bay. Also the following pubs may be worth a try;
Old Farm House- A large Wacky Warehouse pub opposite the ground, that is great for cheap food and families. The pub doesn’t allow colours and gets very busy on a matchday. Whilst it’s not the best football pub that you will come across it serves its purpose.
Berkeley Hotel- A huge pub located a 2 minute walk from the ground. They have a good reputation for their ales and lagers, even winning awards in the past. The pub has a few different bars and enjoys a good mix of home and away fans. It has previously been very cheap for beer and hopefully this is still the case.
Honest Lawyer- A friendly, but popular pub located near to the train station. This pub has quite a big reputation in the football worlds and is normally busy on a matchday. They have a special football food menu and a great range of real ales to choose from. Many of their ales are from small independent breweries rather than your more common brands.
The Iron Bar at the ground is for home fans only.
GLANFORD PARK- Capacity 9,088
Scunthorpe moved to the ‘Lego style’ Glanford Park in 1988 and is very similar in design to Walsall’s Bescot Stadium (well before Walsall put another block behind the goal). The stands are all the same height and the roof continues right around the ground with the corners being filled by advertisement boards and facilities.
Away fans are housed behind the goal in the South Stand, which can seat up to 1,678. It is all seated and now has a bar and TV’s for those that want to get there a little bit early. The stand has a few pillars, but is good for making a bit of noise.
The two side stands (West and East) are similar to the away end, with the West Stand taking on the role of the main stand. This will of course house the usual posh people and fat directors.
Behind the opposite goal is the superbly named North Stand, which is the only terracing in the ground. It is popular amongst the home support and is normally the most vocal area of the home support.
SAFETY
You should have no problems here. Scunthorpe supporters have no real reputation for trouble and there should be a relaxed feel to the day.
